Builders Associations Urge Government to Curb the Rising Cost of Construction Materials The government should intervene and manage the increase in prices of building materials in Kuala Lumpur, say several building and construction associations. MBAM Urged for Longer Operating Hours at Construction Sites The Selangor government should consider extending the construction operating hours from 7am until 7pm on weekdays, the Master Builders Association of Malaysia (MBAM) has urged. Its president Tan Sri Sufri Mohd Zin said the daily procedures to scan temperatures and check in with MySejahtera before workers are allowed entry to sites take up a substantial time. “Towards the end of each working day, construction sites would need to spend a fair amount of time to do housekeeping and clean up to ensure the safety of the sites in check. “MBAM hopes other state governments would consider the same measures. “With the standardisation to extend construction operating hours, it would allow the industry to be able to close in on better productivity,”

Budget 2022 - MBAM Dissapointed, Not Much for Construction Industry The Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) thanked the government in announcing construction projects in the 2022 Budget but in reality, it was disappointed as what was announced was insufficient for the industry at large. MBAM secretary-general Datuk Seri Eric Kuan Khian Leng said most of the projects announced were small scale projects to enhance the infrastructure for public use. "These small projects would benefit part of the industry players mainly in the G1 to G4 categories of contractors," he said in a statement this evening. MBAM Suggests For More Open Tenders The Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) is hoping the construction industry to be able to kick-start mega projects soon and expedite the tender process. In its Budget 2022 wishlist, the association said these projects included construction of roads, affordable housing, bridges, schools and hospitals for the year 2022, which it hoped to be distributed immediately to contractors. “We also like to suggest for more open tenders to encourage fair and competitive bidding,” it said in a statement today. MBAM said it also wished the moratorium for businesses to be extended until June 30, 2022 and the benefit extended to cover limited companies, as well as leasing companies.
