New National Construction Policy: Digitalising the Construction Sector
National Construction Policy 2030 (NCP 2030) is to be launched during the official opening ceremony of the annual International Construction Week 2021 (ICW 2021) next month held virtually from 9 to 11 November 2021.
Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia in a statement said the policy themed ‘Digitalising the Construction Sector’ will guide the continued reinvention and revitalisation of the Malaysian construction industry to be internationally respected and competitive.
“NCP 2030 will set the agenda for industry players to accelerate the adoption of technology and data systems, innovation and automation at every level of operation including before, during and after construction.
The statement further noted that the adoption of emerging technology and global best practice is an important strategy for the recovery of the sectors to ensure Malaysia’s construction industry is able to withstand various challenges domestically and globally.
Minister of Works Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the industry had suffered RM42 billion loss since Covid-19 began therefore he demands that the industry must adapt to changes to ensure their survivability.
“With Malaysia moving towards an endemic strategy, the National Recovery Plan lays the foundation for the transformation of the construction industry, which is even more crucial now for it to remain resilient and competitive in the face of a new global economic reality,” he said in the same statement.
ICW 2021 themed ‘The Next Normal in Construction Industry’ will feature the fourth edition of the International Construction Transformation Conference (ICTC) to gather the regional and international experts to discuss on the topic of adoption of new technologies in the construction industries.
“ICTC 2021 will provide a platform for regional and global industry movers and shakers to explore the innovations and technologies available to the construction industry to build up their resilience and success in a pandemic world.
CIDB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir. Ahmad Asri Abdul Hamid said ICW 2021 will be an important platform for Malaysian construction industry players to explore new opportunities, ideas and innovations to help them in their business recovery.
“Many industries are already embracing digitalisation and innovation to continue thriving in the new normal. It is indeed very timely for the construction industry to also adapt and address the challenges it is facing so that it can continue to achieve its desired level of productivity and competitiveness.
“In order to create a future-proof culture that will allow us to thrive in a globalised and highly competitive environment, industry players must proactively adapt to the new normal and at scale.
ICW 2021 would also include the ASEAN Super 8 mega event, that would bring together industry professionals and representatives, including Government officials, regulators, manufacturers, contractors, developers, industrial users, consultants, and industry experts for a month of virtual exhibitions, conferences, webinars, business matching sessions, and networking activities.
“This makes this event an ideal platform for construction industry players to showcase innovations, source for suppliers, make valuable contacts, stay updated with the latest industry trends and gain new industry insights,” the statements said.
