MRT 3 – 30 Stations, 10 Interchanges
PETALING JAYA: The MRT3 or MRT Circle Line project is expected to involve about 30 stations and 10 interchanges, covering the parameters of Kuala Lumpur and making one round from Bukit Kiara to University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).
MRT Corp said the project will be built in five phases over 10 years.
Its CEO, Mohd Zarif Mohd Hashim, said the entire alignment will cover about 50km, of which 40% will be underground.
He said the official stops and interchanges will be finalised and made public in three months’ time, subject to approval from the government.
While the MRT3 would take a decade to wrap up, Zarif said, each completed phase will be connected to existing stations, allowing it to operate independently.
“We are trying to do it in an overall 10-year period instead of seven. We need to further local technology development so we are not going to rush this project,” he said.
Each phase is expected to commence operations between five and seven years from the start of the project.
Some of the proposed MRT stations, to be confirmed in the coming months, are at Bukit Kiara, INTAN (National Institute of Public Administration), Sri Hartamas, Mont Kiara, Jalan Duta, Matrade, Jalan Kuching, Sentul West, Sentul East, Ayer Panas, Semarak, Setiawangsa, Ampang Point, Desa Pandan, Pandan Indah, Taman Perdana, Taman Midah, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM (formerly known as HUKM), Kuchai Lama, Old Klang Road and Pantai Dalam.
